Childbirth and Parenting Classes

Once you become pregnant, a multitude of questions and recommendations, ranging from how to register for your baby shower to how to bathe your baby, will come rushing toward your gray matter. Though it might be difficult to keep it all straight and know who to choose as your best source of information, A Place for Women trusts the care givers and instructors at The Baby Place at Celebration Health.

Since A Place for Women is affiliated with Celebration Health Florida Hospital, the medical team refers expectant parents to The Baby Place, state-of-the-art birthing center, to take an array of childbirth and parenting education classes. The classes are held at Celebration Health and convenient to pregnant women and couples living or working in Celebration, Kissimmee, Hunter’s Creek, Clermont, Lake Buena Vista, St. Cloud and South Orlando.

Baby Care Class

This Class prepares new parents for the care of their newborn and includes topics such as diapering, burping, developmental stimuli, bathing and much more.  Pre-registration is required if you are not enrolled in Understanding Birth Series. Father's are encouraged to attend.  There is no cost for Parents who are enrolled in Understanding Birth Blitz class.

What to Bring: Snack and drink for your break time.  All other supplies will be provided for classes practice exercises.


Better Breastfeeding Class

The breastfeeding class covers the basics of breastfeeding. The two and a half hours of class is led by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. This class is free to those enrolled in the Childbirth 101 / Understanding Birth class.

Happiest Baby on the Block Class

The Happiest Baby on the Block is a national program developed by Harvey Karp, MD, a renowned pediatrician. In two hours, new or expectant parents learn how to calm a fussy baby. Participants also receive a CD and DVD.

The Breastfeeding Friendship Network

This once-a-week meeting, hosted by the Lactation Center, supports breastfeeding mom and babies. Lunch is provided at noon. There is also a baby weigh scale available for use.


Siblings’ Class (Big Brother/Sister Class)

This class is designed for children, ages 3 to 12, who are expecting a new brother or sister and is held once a month. A DVD on adjusting to becoming a big brother or sister is show, followed by a demonstration on holding, feeding and diapering an infant. The children can also tour The Baby Place (not labor and delivery). It is recommended that each child bring a newborn-size doll or teddy bear to practice diapering.

The Baby Place Tour

Every expecting mother should take advantage of touring The Baby Place, state-of-the-art facility that has given birth to serenity and sophistication. Moms and their newborn babies are waited on hand and foot with private rooms, private baths, hardwood floors, accommodations for loved ones and one-on-one consultations with experts. Each family has access to the wonderful concierge services and will have a much better experience if they are equipped with first-hand knowledge before the big event.

The Florida Hospital Lactation Center

The Lactation Center, staffed by International Board Certified Lactation Consultants, offers prenatal breastfeeding classes, private consultations, telephone support, breast pump sales and rentals (including how-to instructions), beautiful nursing bras fit by certified specialists, and other breastfeeding and baby supplies. These items are also available for purchase online at www.FHGifts.com.


Childbirth 101: Blitz

Join us for a one day Saturday class for women in the last trimester of pregnancy and their partners. It includes preparation for labor and delivery, Lamaze breathing and relaxation techniques, postpartum and newborn care. All instructors are certified to teach the Lamaze method. You must pre-register for this class and the $100 fee allows you the opportunity to attend an Anesthesia Class on a separate night at a different location for FREE.  LUNCH will be provided for you and your labor coach.  (One extra support person is welcome to attend class at no extra fee.)  Lamaze classes should be started when you are about 30 weeks pregnant

What to bring: 2 pillows, a blanket or yoga mat, and snack/drinks.  Since the class is geared for adults we ask that you make other arrangements for your children.


Childbirth 101: The Series

Join us for a 4 week series for women in the last trimester of pregnancy and their partners. It includes preparation for labor and delivery, Lamaze breathing and relaxation, comfort techniques, postpartum and newborn care, analgesia and anesthesia. All instructors are certified to teach the Lamaze method. You must register for this class and the $75 fee allows you the opportunity to attend an Anesthesia Class on a separate night at a different location for FREE. (One extra support person is welcome to attend the class with no extra fee, in the event that the main support person is unable to attend.)  Lamaze classes should be started when you are about 30 weeks pregnant.

What to bring: 2 pillows, a blanket or yoga mat, and snack/drinks.  Since the class is geared for adults we ask that you make other arrangements for your children.
