As early as adolescents, women may experience PMS and pelvic pain. Often, sensitive issues that occur early in a women’s life can lead to infertility and even complicated menopausal symptoms. A Place for Women is equipped to handle delicate matters related to gynecology and well-women care, such as discussing the HPV vaccination, overcoming infertility and creating a multifaceted menopausal care plan. More than delivering better health care—creating a better quality of life!

Your health is our number one concern. That’s why we recommend that every women schedule an annual well-woman exam to ensure optimal cervical, breast and urogynecologic health. At A Place for Women, we offer comprehensive well-woman care services, such as:

Breast Exam

Breast exams are a critical part of your health care. During your annual visit to A Place for Women, our doctors will perform a breast exam to check for any abnormalities and changes in your breast tissues.

We will also show you how to perform a self exam so you can check for changes regularly in between annual medical exams.

A breast exam will help you become familiar with the normal consistency of your breasts and the underlying tissue, as well as inspecting your breasts for new changes that may signify potential breast problems. Doing breast exams helps you learn the normal feel and appearance of your breasts. That makes it easier to notice subtle changes, should they occur. If you do notice any changes in your breasts, call A Place for Women so your doctor can check it right away.

Pap Test or Pap Smear

A Place for Women will perform a Pap smear, also called a Pap test, to check for changes in the cells of your cervix, the lower part of your uterus that opens into your vagina.

A Pap smear can tell if you have an infection, abnormal cervical cells, which may indicate HPV or cervical cancer.

Regular Pap tests have led to a significant reduction in cervical cancer deaths because regular Pap smears can detect the earliest signs of cervical cancer such as abnormal cells and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Early detection can save your life.

Family Planning & Birth Control

Family planning and birth control is a very important part of well-woman care. Essentially, “family planning” is a comprehensive term that helps you determine when you want to become pregnant; or if you wish to become pregnant. There are many methods of birth control available, making it difficult to determine which method is best for you—today, tomorrow, forever.

Following are the most common methods of family planning and birth control:

  • Natural family planning, also called the rhythm method
  • Barrier methods such as the contraceptive sponge, diaphragm, cervical cap, cervical shield and female condom
  • Hormonal methods including oral contraceptives (“the pill”), topical contraceptives (“the patch”), injectable contraceptives and the vaginal ring
    • OrthoEvra Patch
    • Nuvaring
    • Depo-Provera
  • Implantable devices such as implantable rods or intrauterine devices (IUD)
    • IUD (Paragard and Mirena)
    • Implanon Implant

Permanent birth control methods including tubal ligation, endometrial ablation or sterilization implants

Pregnancy Tests

Speaking of family planning, if you believe you are pregnant, A Place for Women can help you know for sure. A pregnancy test checks for hormonal markers in your blood or urine that indicate you are pregnant. Conducting a home pregnancy test could be step one in establishing if you are pregnant, the next best move is to schedule an appointment with A Place for Women.

If you think you might be pregnant, it’s important to talk to one of the doctors at A Place for Women as soon as possible. Early, regular prenatal care can help keep you and your baby healthy.
